Transition Inspiration

Transition Inspiration

While watching the latest Sugar Pine 7 'What's happening to my destroyed car?', a transition between 1:03 and 1:07 in the video they use a pillar to change between the character Steven and Cib.

I would like to implement this into my work as it is an interesting transition that would be useful for changing locations and give this disjointed feeling usually associated with conventions of alternative videos. With this transition, I can allow a very loose narrative to be in place to give the video some meaning as well giving the target audience something to analyse as I found a lot of the followers of the alternative genre in my target audience like to further analysis. By having a fluid narrative more analysis can be done on the video.

  • Must fill all the frame.
  • Time consuming
  • Will have to use either Hitfilm or Adobe Premiere Pro (I will probably end up using Adobe).

Audience

Audience

This post includes comments from a selection of both alternative genre of music, the bands I chose were Glass Animals and The 1975. I then took these comments and compiled them to create an idea of who my audience would be and what they would most likely, like in content from the bands music videos.

Industry Regulation

Industry Regulation

Who ?:

In Britain the BBFC controls music videos, as well as films. It is quite difficult however to control the publication of potentially vulgar music videos online, to combat this they have started encouraging people to report videos.

Not only do the BBFC control the age requirements of audience based on its contents. Websites such as YouTube that had to make changes to who they allow to see videos after the advertisers on the website as well as parents started to complain about either what was being promoted with a brand  or what children were able to view. To counter this they allowed only people with accounts and people over certain ages depending on the video allow to watch particularly risky content.

The Rating System:

Like films music video have a similar rating system:

  • Infrequent use of drug
  • No promotion of dangerous behaviour
  • Moderate language
  • No nudity
  • Moderate sex reference, violence and threat

  • some discrimination and theme
  • drugs abuse shown but not promoted
  • dangerous behaviour and nudity not showed in detail
  • strong language
  • sex only portrayed
  • strong threat and violence

  • Only for adults
  • content that breach law
  • have the ability to individuals through the showing of violence, drug abuse and sex

The Problem:

Even if this rating system in place it is not always protect more vulnerable members of society. As content can still be posted online which is much harder to monitor and regulate.

Copyright:

Ensuring that my work is in line with the 'Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988' is incredibly important not only to keep my video online on sites like YouTube but also to be ethically right.
The copyright act help protect creators intellectual property, this act could also protect my music video has the video is my intellectual property.

My Work:

This relates to my work as having my video inline the with both the BBFC and You Tubes guidelines as well as different laws implemented to protect work such as my own.

Website Analysis

Looking at the effective points of the website and what is essential to a working website. Being able to understand the main function of the website will help to ensure that the ancillary product is understood as a website.

Prototypes of Digipak Cover's

Prototype of Digipak Cover's

These are two example of digipak album covers that I have mocked up in Photoshop. They both use Richard Dyer's star theory by using the artists face creating a brand using the artists face. These are very popular designs especially in the alternative genre and more recently in the pop genre as a hybridity of this two genre starts to become popular.

Another design that I would not be able to complete until the music video is planned would be to take a key point from the video and make it the key point of the digipak cover.

Digipak Analysis

Digipak Analysis

Researching into Digipak's will help me when creating my own digipak as I will be able to identify the conventional elements of digipak and use them in my own work. Having more conventional elements used in my digipak will most likely make its function more efficiently.

Dyer's Star Theory

Dyer's Star Theory

This is a mind map of Richard Dyer's star theory, star theory will be used during the production of my music video and its ancillary tasks depending on the artist of the music and how present their brand is in their music. Whether they would be more like Kanye and have a present brand or be more alternative where the brand is based less on the actions of the artist but their musical integrity.
